Message from our vets

The veterinarians at our Cape Town hospital encourage members of the public to research a particular breed of animal before making this addition to your family.

At the PDSA, our veterinarians treat the complete range of cases; however we have noticed an increasing trend in dogs being stabbed, poisoned and shot during the latter months of 2008.

DUTIES OF AN ANIMAL WELFARE ASSISTANTS

Animal Welfare Assistants (AWA's) are lay people who perform the function of a normal paramedic. In house training is offered at the PDSA and practical experience of 1 year is required.

A course is currently being developed by Unisa, that will afford all AWA's, the opportunity of acquiring a certificate. They will then be acknowledged as qualified and registered Animal Welfare Assistants. This course should be up and running by 2013. Keep checking the website.
