Animal Welfare Assistants:

Are you interested in becoming an Animal Welfare Assistant? Your duties will include:

Animal Welfare Assistants (AWA’s) are lay people who perform the function of a normal paramedic. In house training is offered at the PDSA and practical experience of 1 year is required.

A course is still being developed by Unisa, that will afford all AWA’s, the opportunity of acquiring a certificate. They will then be acknowledged as qualified and registered Animal Welfare Assistants. The dates of availability will be advised accordingly. The first intake of students is likely to be Jan 2017.
