One of the most effective ways in which you can ensure that the PDSA (SA)’s work continues is by remembering us in your will.
You can leave any realisable asset:
– personal possessions;
– money or stocks and shares;
to the PDSA (SA).
It is not difficult to draw up a will and it is possible to obtain pre-printed forms for this purpose. However, you may wish to seek advice from an attorney, accountant, or the Trust Department of a bank, for it is part of their function to draw up wills.
If you wish to leave a specified sum of money to the PDSA (SA) in your will the following clause should be used:
“I give and bequeath to the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (SA), 38 Tarentaal Road, Bridgetown the sum of R… (in figures and words)”
If you wish to leave your entire estate to the PDSA, you should use the following clause:
“I bequeath all the residue of my estate to the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (SA), 38 Tarentaal Road, Bridgetown”
If you wish to leave a share of your estate to the PDSA (SA), you are advised to consult an attorney about how best to express your wishes.
If you have already made your will, a bequest to the PDSA (SA) can be contained in an addition to your will, known as a codicil, which can be added at any time. A codicil must be signed and witnessed in the same way as the will itself (although the witnesses do not need to be the same). It must be kept with the will, but not affixed to it.
Examples of Codicils:
RELATING TO MY ESTATE

I confirm the terms of my will in all other respects.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand at this …… day of……20…, in the presence of the subscribing witnesses, I, the testator, and the said witnesses all being present together at the same time and signing our names in the presence of one another.
